Anybody here use it? Used to use it? Like it? Hate it?

I used it a few times when I didn't have MS Office. It worked well for opening docs sent to me. I never really used it for more that that.

My sons professors tell the students to use it if they cant afford MS Office. (which is how I found out about it)

I've heard nothing but good thinsg about it...really.

It works ok. I mostly haven't used it because I'm familiar with MS Office, and I have access to install disks.

I've used it. I've only used Word and Excel, but I use Excel a lot. The open version is fine. It's not quite as user friendly as Excel, so if you're very used to it you'll probably be a little annoyed with the open version, but overall they seem to be decent programs.

mostly i want to be able to read and edit simple excel sheets. i notice that you can't save as docx or xlsx.

Yes, but I believe you can open those types, and also resave them in those formats. Which means you can get someone to send you a blank Excel or Word file, and save it as a new document every time you want to start a new document.

Edit: No, you can't do .docx or .xlsx in Open Office 2.0 (which I have). But you can do that trick with the regular .doc and .xls files.
