The Image Collector
I've been playing around with black and white drawings colored in photoshop. this is the first of a series of prints i will be offering for sale. the frame will be black, the mat will be white.

I'm almost afraid to ask this, because maybe you don't want to explicitly think about it yet, but I really am curious: why the experimentation with new forms and shapes recently? Is it just a natural evolution, do you think, or is it in response to particular events/ideas?

I find the new stuff just as exciting and interesting as the round canvases. The ones above, in particular, are very appealing.

Re: ..

there isn't really anything new about the imagery. i've been drawing like this for years. the shapes in the underpainting of the painting i'm currently working on date to my first deliberately abstract piece from 7th grade. the images in this piece have occurred in doodles and drawings for years. i am definitely experimenting within my established language, though. the computer is a powerful tool. too powerful, if used indiscriminately. i am trying to use it without abusing it. in this instance, all i did was crop, mirror image, and color. i could have colored the drawing in more traditional ways, of course, but i wanted the consistent, even quality that only printing will give you. i'm playing right now. creative play is how i find most of my best ideas.

*swoon!* I'd love something like this :) Not only do I like the work; I have nice memories of colouring-book day.

I have no idea whether I'll have a place for something like this when I move in with P and Z, though.

For whatever it's worth, I likes it lots :)

Very very cool, daddio. They remind me of abstract dragons.

Oh, that's really great! curious coz .. as you said about my new drawings, i think it was going to be wonderful in a 'coloured woodcut' technique.. well, but it's already very good in the way you made that..

thanks :)

i've been meaning to do some block printing for a while now. maybe i'll get to it soon. these are fun and easy to do, and i can sell them inexpensively. that was the main reason for going this direction.
