if you take something random and apply a little structure to it or if you take a structure and apply randomness to it, the result will be a thing of beauty.

in 1992 i did a series of paintings under the title "random structure" with some inspiration from native american textile art. this is the second of the series.

a buncha letters

MXCII = 1092, silly guy. Quick, pencil in an MC in front of it!

:-)

I like this one, it's very soothing. Love the one you're working on now, though!

Today's farbel question: was there a point, somewhere during these past X years (heh), when the farbels went from being done in all one color to being mixed up like they are now? Or did you paint them in both styles back then?

Happy MMIII, by the way!!o

Re: a buncha letters

if you look closely, you'll see a line between the bottom of the left leg of the "M" and the point of the center, creating a sort of "DM", which is my initials. i have been using it since 1974. so what it says is "DM 92" :)

the answer to your question is "sort of yes". the much freer way i go about painting the pattern these days began around 7 or 8 years ago, and really came to fruition in about 1999. i have been using multiple colors of pattern since the beginning, but in a much more structured and controlled manner early on.

so what it says is "DM 92"

Aha! I can see it if I squint; it's probably much more obvious
on the actual painting than in this small photo.

Squinting gives me crow's feet, though. :-) Or rather, X-)
