day 1, amman

Amman is much less conservative, at least at first glance, than i expected. A young woman just walked by in 4 inch heels, tight pants, a silk blouse, and a hajib. i have seen almost as many bareheaded women as i have seen ultra-conservative. Most cover their heads and dress in modern clothing.

the women traffic police wear cute little pillbox hats with brims. the male ones wear helmets with spikes on top. equally cute. neither seem to do much. men walk up and down the streets with trays full of coffee and tea, selling to street vendors and shopkeepers.

visited the roman theater and the citadel today. my knees hurt. going to go sit in a cafe somewhere and read. tomorrow i am going out to the desert to see castles.
