I like the notion of a photograph as a captured moment in time. Maybe this is why the earliest photographs, taken when the medium was novel, are so appealing. There is much less self-consciousness on the part of either the subject or the photographer, so we truly see a "slice of life". I try to achieve this in some of my travel photography, capturing the bustle and motion of a street corner, for example, or people simply going about their day to day existence. These are often my best images.
