i like to say that once i have finished a painting, it no longer has anything to do with me. the viewer becomes the artist, imparting any meaning or imagery they like to the piece. this is not altogether true, however. i do exert some control over your interaction with my paintings by way of my choice of title. for example, scroll down to my february 24th entry. suppose i titled it flight. this affects the way you impart representation to the abstraction of the painting. how about if i named it conflict? how would you see it then? of course you can't really know, as you have already seen it in the light of the previous name. neither of these is actually the title. i named it mask
