Little Petra and mystery food. [Nov. 17th, 2010|06:39 am]

Little Petra is, well, little. It is also beautiful, quiet, and a nice way to spend a couple hours relaxing after four days on the ancient stairmaster that is Petra. I have enjoyed my stay here with the gregarious Ma'moud at the Sharah Mountains Hotel. I might have been able to stay cheaper; I definitely could have paid more; but I am glad I landed here.

I have just had delivered to me a plate of something delicious wrapped in grape leaves. Ma'moud has given me free Turkish coffee every morning, and he has regularly made me laugh. No complaints.

Still, I am glad to be moving on to the next adventure, Wadi Rum tomorrow for a day and a night, and then Aqaba for a couple of days before heading north.

I miss Jane and Kai and Mila and Jason and Kacey, my family.

Beautiful places. I often wonder, what is your motivation for various places. What are you looking for in that place? My intuition thinks each place has a question in mind, maybe not total adventure. Just saying...I wonder.

i'm attracted to ancient sites and radically different cultures. i also like to travel without extensive investigation of the place, so i learn on the road, so to speak. i spend more time in the developing world partly because of cost, but also because the individual cultures of the places have survived Americanization to a greater degree.
